Crow Tribe pledges to clean up court system

TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 2003 Facing a threat from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Crow Tribe of Montana has hired a former federal prosecutor to clean up its court system. Sherry Scheel Matteucci, a former U.S. Attorney for Montana, says she will address longstanding problems and make reforms. The BIA said the court system suffered from numerous problems, including unqualified judges and the improper release of possibly dangerous criminals, The Billings Gazette reported. Get the Story:
