The state of Washington and the Puyallup Tribe are blaming the deaths of at least 1,000 salmon in the White River on the the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The Corps lowered the water in the river in order to work on a dam. But the state and the tribe said the operation was ill-timed.

Some of the dead fish include chinook, which are considered a threatened species.
