Starbucks opposes name of Native-owned business

THURSDAY, APRIL 17, 2003 Coffee giant Starbucks is threatening legal action against a business owned by three Haida entrepreneurs in Canada, CBC reports. Called HaidaBucks, the coffee / food shop is located on the Queen Charlotte Islands in British Columbia. One of the owners says the name stems from the "bucks" nickname that Native men are often called. "Lots of men out there are called Haida bucks," Darren Swanson told the CBC.
