The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma plans to lay off as many as 100 housing employees, The Daily Oklahoman reports.

The tribe is offering employees a voluntary severance plan for those who retire or resign. The employees can have eight weeks pay.

But an attorney for the Cherokee Nation Housing Authority employees affected said the tribe should follow state law and offer 18 months of medical coverage and $5,000 in severance pay.
