Oneida group claims status as separate tribe

TUESDAY, APRIL 29, 2003 An attorney for the Marble Hill Oneidas of New York disputed a 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ruling on the tribe's status as a separate tribe. The court, in an unpublished opinion, said the group was part of the federally-recognized Oneida Nation. The decision was made because the group is seeking to join the Oneida land claim. Attorney Philip Gitlen said the group is considering its next step. Get the Story:
