Ellis Island holds ceremony for Lenape remains

THURSDAY, MAY 1, 2003 The remains of Lenape ancestors accidentally unearthed at Ellis Island in New York 17 years ago are being reburied in a ceremony today. The remains date between 801 and 1601 A.D, The Daily Oklahoman reports. One of the three boxes being used was carved by Delaware artist Mike Watkins. The historic Lenape, or Delaware, Tribe occupied parts the New York-New Jersey-Pennsylvania area. The tribe was removed to Oklahoma. Get the Story:
