THURSDAY, MAY 1, 2003 A Native woman testified in the trial of two people charged with murdering a Native RCMP officer in Manitoba, Canada. The defense challenged Rose Ferguson's statement to police about one of the accused, Laurie Bell. Ferguson, a former jailmate of Bell, has relatives in law enforcement and the defense tried to show she was biased. The defense also painted Ferguson as a child abuser.
