FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2003

At least 30 communities in Alaska, including Native villages, have banned plastic bags.

Residents grew tired of seeing the bags strewn over the landscape. While many say it was tough to give the bags up, they say it was well worth it.

Some villages have considered bans but opposition stopped them. Supporters like their ease of use and utility.
