"Sherman Alexie in stand-up mode is an equal-opportunist. Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives, Indians and whites all get lambasted, typically in hilarious ways. Much of the evening revolved around what Alexie termed the "changing American narrative" since 9-11, and he mined his own life as a "brown man" since the terrorist attacks for humor.

"All of the brown people were praying for the same thing [on 9-11]. " 'Please don't let them be brown terrorists. Let them be blond-haired, blue-eyed Norwegian terrorists,' because we knew what it would be like," Alexie said, then describing a man pulling up to him in Seattle and telling him, "Go back to your own country!"

"It wasn't so much a hate crime as an irony," deadpanned the member of the Spokane tribe."
