The announcement of a land and gaming rights settlement with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York was delayed on Wednesday.

The tribe objected to a provision in the agreement that leaders say was inserted at the last minute, according to reports. State officials said they hope to finalize the deal by this week.

According to news accounts, the tribe will accept $100 million for a 15,000-acre land claim. The money can be used to purchase 7,000 acres in the claim area.

Of the settlement amount, the state and the federal government would pay $30 million and the New York Power Authority would contribute $70 million. The Power Authority will also transfer some properties to the tribe and supply low-cost power to the reservation.

Finally, the deal resolves Class III gaming issues and paves the way for an off-reservation casino in the Catskills.
