A site in Maryland where thousands of artifacts have been uncovered has received historic protection.

The Piscataway-Conoy Tribe and archaeologists believe the 23 acres is an historic tribal settlement. They also believe the remains of slaves are buried there.

The land has been considered for development for several years.

A preliminary survey found 12,000 artifacts.
