Griles undergoing ethics inquiry at DOI
TUESDAY, MAY 13, 2003

The Department of Interior's inspector general is conducting an ethics inquiry of top officials.

The probe was prompted by questions into Deputy Secretary J. Steven Griles, a former mining lobbyist. Although he promised not to make decisions affecting former clients, he has met with them and ruled on matters affecting their interests.

Griles is still getting paid more than $1 million a year, on top of his government salary, for his lobbying work.
