Cherokee Nation candidates enter final stretch

Voters of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma go to the polls on Saturday to choose a new principal chief.

Incumbent Chad Smith is facing a challenge by former chief Joe Byrd and L.S. Fields and Robin Mayes.

Byrd ran the tribe from 1995 to 1999, when he was defeated by Smith.
