About 120 black-footed ferrets have been released on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota as part of a tribal-federal partnership. Most appear to be doing well.

The U.S. Forest Service is trying to restore the black-footed ferret species, which was though to be extinct. The animals are considered endangered.
