Blackfeet firefighter goes to White House

WEDNESDAY, MAY 21, 2003 President Bush promoted his "Healthy Forest Initiative" with the help of several Bureau of Indian Affairs firefighters. One of them was Andrea Gilham, a member of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana. Gilham was described as a fire management officer for the BIA. She stood on the podium with Bush during a White House ceremony. The proposal calls for increased thinning of federal forest land. It passed the House yesterday by a 256 to 170 vote. Get the Story:
