S.C. panel approves tribal recognition bill

THURSDAY, MAY 22, 2003 A bill that elevates Indian affairs in the state of South Carolina is advancing in the State Legislature. The bill seeks to help tribes gain state recognition. The Minority Affairs Commission would oversee Indian issues. The Catawba Nation is the only federally-recognized tribe in the state. Get the Story:
