Colombian rebel extradited for activist murders

THURSDAY, MAY 29, 2003 A Colombian rebel indicted for the murders of three Native activists is being extradited to the United States. Ingrid Washinawatok, a member of the Menominee Nation; Terence Freitas; and Lahee'Enae Gay, a Native Hawaiian, were found dead in March 1999. They traveled to Colombia to work with the U'Wa Nation. Nelson Vargas Rueda, of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), was one of six rebels indicted for the deaths. One other man has been extradited so far. Get the Story:
