A federal court has recommended that the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas receive $270.6 million in compensation from the federal government.

The U.S. Court of Claims said the tribe is owed money for oil and natural gas production, timber harvesting and trespassing that occurred on 5.5 million acres of ancestral land in Texas. The court said the government breached its trust to the tribe.

But the tribe can't get its hands on any money until Congress acts. If the settlement becomes law, it would be the largest tribal settlement in history.
