DOJ files brief in anti-abortion protest case

TUESDAY, JUNE 3, 2003 The Department of Justice has sided against anti-abortion activists in a case testing the limits of free speech. Last May, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals voted 6-5 against an anti-abortion group called American Coalition of Life Activists (ACLA). The court said ACLA's "Wanted" posters of abortion providers violated federal law and was not constitutionally protected speech. As doctors on the group's list were killed, their names were grayed or crossed out. ACLA has asked the Supreme Court to review the case. Writing for the Bush administration, Solicitor General Ted Olson said the 9th Circuit ruling was correct. Get the Story:
