FRIDAY, JUNE 27, 2003

Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal is calling on the Bureau of Land Management to restrict drilling in the Jack Morrow Hills in order to protect sacred sites.

BLM issued an environmental impact statement for the 620,000-acre area of the Red Desert. The plan calls for up to 205 oil and gas wells to be drilling in the hills, known for its sacred sites and endangered species.

The Eastern Shoshone Tribe and the Northern Arapaho Tribe have asked BLM to limit development in areas used for hunting, medicine gathering and ceremonies.
