The owner of a proposed mine in Wisconsin wants to sell a site where more than 500 Chippewa and Sioux warriors are buried to two tribes.

Spirit Hill occupies 320 acres of the 5,000-acre mine property. It is where the warriors died in an 1806 battle over control of the wild rice beds on Rice Lake.

The Mole Lake Chippewa Tribe and the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe are being offered the land. The tribes oppose the mine because they fear it will destroy Rice Lake and harm the environment.
