The Eastern Shoshone Tribe of Wyoming hosted a reunion last week for all Shoshone-speaking tribes, drawing attendants from as far away as Mexico for cultural activities.

A large focus on the reunion was language preservation. In Wyoming, most young tribal members don't speak the language. The public school offers lessons in Shoshone to students from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Shoshone is considered part of the Uto-Aztecan family of languages.
