Nev. tribe considers hosting Burning Man fest

TUESDAY, JULY 8, 2003 The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe of Nevada is in talks to become the permanent host for the popular "Burning Man" festival. Chairwoman Bonnie Akaka-Smith is meeting with the organizers for the counterculture event, which draws an estimated 30,000 to the Nevada desert every summer. Hosting the Burning Man could bring needed revenues to the tribe, she said, but there are many questions that need to be addressed. The event has been held in the Black Rock Desert for the past 13 years but may be forced to move due to local opposition. Get the Story:
