Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.) has fallen short of his own fundraising goal, The Denver Post reports.

Campbell has raised less than $500,000 last quarter, according to figures that will be provided to the Federal Elections Commission. That puts his overall total at at about $885,000.

Campbell previously told the paper that he hopes to raise $2.5 million. Democrats are fueling speculation that he will retire from the Senate.

Campbell currently serves as chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.
