Mesa Verde sites considered safe from fire

FRIDAY, JULY 18, 2003 The Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado remains closed but the park's Puebloan villages and artifacts are said to be safe from fire. Several fires are burning in and near the park. About 2,100 acres have been affected. Mesa Verde was hit by a large fire in 2000, which burned more than a third of the park's 52,000 acres.
