N.Y. judge upholds historic expansion of gaming

FRIDAY, JULY 18, 2003 New York Supreme Court Justice Joseph Teresi on Thursday upheld the law that ushered in the largest expansion of gaming in state history. Opponents said the measure violated the state's constitution. Teresi, in an 11-page ruling, disagreed and said the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act clearly allows tribal gaming. The law authorized compacts for six casinos -- three for the Seneca Nation and three off-reservation in the Catskills. It also allowed video lottery terminals at race tracks. Get the Story:
