White Mountain evacuees set to return home

FRIDAY, JULY 18, 2003

Members of the White Mountain Apache Tribe of Arizona will be allowed to return to their homes today as crews continue to battle a blaze on the reservation.

The Kinishba Fire has burned about 20,000 acres. Crews have experienced some success in the past two days, containing 20 percent of the blaze.

An ongoing concern is the possible damage to archaeological sites on the reservation. Although not Apache in origin, the tribe has a great interest in preserving old Pueblo villages.
