Mesa Verde set to open as crews battle blaze

MONDAY, JULY 21, 2003 Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado is scheduled to reopen today while crews continue to battle a 2,600 acre fire. The park was closed last week due to safety concerns. Some thought the Puebloan villages were at risk but they appear to have escaped unharmed. Mesa Verde was hit by a large fire in 2000, which burned more than a third of the park's 52,000 acres.
