OCTOBER 6, 2000 They say the best things in life are free and what would be better than a free concert featuring Jackson Browne, Indigenous, and The Indigo Girls? Normally, you'd have to pay good money to see any of these performers strut their stuff live. Indigenous is currently on tour supporting their latest release Circle and The Indigo Girls have been known to sell out stages throughout the world. But on Monday, October 9, music lovers from the Navajo Nation will be the lucky ones to benefit from a free concert at the Window Window Rock Civic Center in Window Rock, Arizona. The Window Rock show is just one of the latest stops on the Honor the Earth Tour. So far, the tour has hit three reservations in Montana and has included performances by Bonnie Raitt and Joan Baez. Raitt and Baez aren't scheduled to perform on Monday, but the show will be exciting nonetheless. For those who haven't caught Indigenous at their recent shows in Phoenix, the drive up to Window Rock might be worth it. But if you can't make it there, all the performers, including acoustic artist Ben Harper, will also be playing in Sedona, Arizona, on Sunday, October 8. The tour will also hit Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Wednesday, October 11. The tour this year is focused on protecting bison in Yellowstone National Park. Under an interagency management plan, over 1,200 bison have been killed for fear of transmitting brucellosis, a deadly disease, to cows. But as activist and Vice Presidential candidate Winona LaDuke tells concerned parties, there has never been a case of such a transmission ever happening. The National Parks Service is still accepting comments on a new plan that they hope to implement. Keeping bison away from cattle is still a major component of the plan, but park officials hope to prevent unnecessary killing of buffalo. Get the Bison Environmental Impact Statement:
