DECEMBER 20, 2000 Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve, a Rosebud Sioux author, will be awarded the National Humanities Medal today, in honor of her her literary works. Driving Hawk Sneve is one of 12 who will receive the award in a special ceremony with President Bill Clinton and First Lad Hillary Clinton. She is the first South Dakota resident to receive the honor. Driving Hawk Sneve's works include "Completing the Circle," "Jimmy Yellow Hawk," and "Grandpa Was a Cowboy & An Indian," her latest.
