MAY 10, 2000

Native activist and artist Charlene Teters (Spokane) is preparing an exhibit to commemorate massacres of Native Americans throughout history. "Sea to Shining Sea: American Holocaust" will be part of the Sculpture 2000 International festival.

Teters is encouraging public participation in her exhibit; asking that each person bring a stick to symbolize him or herself and plant it in the ground. The sticks are meant to represent a massacre and in the case of Connecticut, a 1637 incident which left about 600 Pequot dead.

Her exhibit will be on display at the University of Connecticut at Avery Point.
