Painted ponies pay out to charities

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2001 Skeptics still remain but the organizer of the Painted Ponies project in New Mexico donated $255,237 to 19 nonprofit groups on Monday. Rodney Barker of HorsePower enlisted 119 artists, many of them Native, to paint the ponies, which were then put on display throughout the state. The ponies were then auctioned off, although not all have completed a sale. Some believed Barker would never be able to deliver on his promise to donate money to charity as well as make money off the deal. Get the Story:
