ABC has approved a $30 million Native "mythology" miniseries called "Dreamkeeper," entertainment trade magazine Variety is reporting.

The four-part series is based on a trip a 17-year-old is forced to take with his 100-year-old grandfather. The teen, to be played by Eddie Spears, has to drive granpda from South Dakota to a "storytelling powwow" in where else but Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Along the way it is alleged the teen learns more from his grandfather.

Production is expected to start May 1 with an air date of November 2003. The cast is said to be mostly Native as will be the production crew.

The mini-series is a project of Robert Halmi Sr.'s Hallmark Entertainment, which was behind the CBS movie that featured a Jewish woman playing a Navajo woman.
