OCTOBER 19, 2000 The historic preservation group in Nebraska has begun a project to restore the Otoe Indian Mission School, located on the site of the former Oto-Missouria Reservation. The Oto and Missouria once called Nebraska their home. But hey were confined to a 250-square-mile reservation in 1854, where the mission school was built. Eventually, the two tribes were removed to Oklahoma, where they are currently based. The school was then converted into a farm house. The Gage County Historic Preservation Inc. has a long way to go to restore the building, however. The building, which now resides on a park, needs new windows, an electrical system, roof repairs, and new paint, among other repairs. Get the Story:
