Neither students, faculty, alumni, or others appear to be able to agree on the use of the "Fighting Sioux" nickname at the University of North Dakota.

The University released the results of a series of surveys conducted on the issue on Monday. A meeting was also held last night.

Some 59 percent of Native American students said the name was offensive, but the rest of the students and alumni didn't agree, saying the nickname honors Sioux people. Most non-Native students and alumni also didn't support resolutions from four tribal councils which have called for the name to change.

The Otto Bremer Foundation said they were considering withholding $80,000 in grants for Native American health programs at the school because the school hasn't dropped the use of the nickname.
