Louis King has been temporarily reassigned from his job as superintendent of the Chemawa Indian School in Oregon to a position at the Bureau of Indian Affairs office in Portland.

Students, parents, teachers, and community leaders have raised concerns about the school in recent years. The school had a drug and alcohol treatment program and a counseling program that were recently eliminated.

The school attracts Native Americans from many states, including Arizona, where the education committee of the Gila River Indian Community recently voted to look into problems its students might face there. It was founded in 1880.
