DECEMBER 4, 2000

Henry Real Bird, appointed to head the Little Big Horn College on the Crow Reservation in Montana, on Saturday turned down the job citing family support for Janine Pease Pretty on Top, whom he was supposed to replace.

Students and Pretty on Top vowed to prevent Real Bird from assuming responsibilities. Students barricaded themselves in the school on Thursday, security guards wouldn't let Real Bird enter school property, and Pretty on Top had obtained a injunction blocking Real Bird's assumption.
