DECEMBER 6, 2000

The controversy of the leadership of the Little Big Horn College on the Crow Reservation in Montana continues as students seek mediation to the attempt to oust President Janine Pease Pretty On Top.

The tribe withdrew from its own attempt to help settle the dispute. In response, students have threatened to take over the campus in support of Pretty on Top. One student leader met with tribal Chairman Clifford Bird in Ground on Tuesday.

Pretty on Top awaits a hearing on Friday that will consider if she was ordered removed from her position legally. Some, but not all, members of the school's board of trustees have asked for her resignation.
