Old Indian School being demolished

MARCH 19, 2001

Some 51 years of boarding school memories, both good and bad, are being recalled with the demolition of the old Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah.

Children from the Navajo Nation, Ute, and other tribes attended the school until it was closed in 1984. It was subsequently sold to a private developer who looked at ways of salvaging the old buildings but decided getting rid of them was the only way to make room for an apartment and housing development.

Some are hoping full demolition of the buildings can be prevented and are hoping to persuade the developer, New York-based Cape Advisers, to keep the buildings.
