Boarding schools may return to Alaska

The Alaska State Legislature's Budget and Audit Committee has endorsed the idea of bringing back boarding schools to the state.

In the past, rural Alaska Native villages had to send their children to boarding schools. But in the 1970s, the state began constructing schools in most villages to meet their needs. Now, all but one boarding school has been closed.
