The Winnebago and Omaha Nation public schools want to recover $12M in lost aid to their reservation schools in northeastern Nebraska. Due to the way in which funding is provided to state public school, tribal schools have missed out on the money over the past seven years. The school districts took their case to the legislature, hoping to find aid before pursuing legal action against the state.

Nebraska Education Commissioner Doug Christensen said he was doubtful the school districts could find a solution through administrative means.
