A man who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia was charged on Monday with four counts of first-degree attempted murder and four counts of first-degree assault for allegedly stabbing four children at an Anchorage, Alaska school.

Jason W. Pritchard, 33, was apprehended early yesterday morning after the incident at Mountain View Elementary School. He allegedly sttacked the children with a fishing knife.

Pritchard has a history of mental problems. He was also convicted in 1995 of second-degree stalking after reportedly talking to junior high school girls about sex and religion.

In 1998, he was convicted of assault, criminal mischief, and trespass for an incident at a rooming house.

Parents say they will picket Mountain View today because they have previously raised security concerns. Classes have been canceled for today.
