The Ahfachkee School on the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation in Florida bounced back from low test scores and high dropout rates three years ago to becoming the the only Indian-runs school to win the Title I Distinguished School award.

The tribe's five casinos have helped contribute to large spending on the school. The tribe spends $12,600 per child compared to $6,251, the national average and $9,703, the highest in New Jersey.
