Report criticizes Mont. schools

FRIDAY, JULY 20, 2001 The Montana Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights criticizes public schools in the state for not improving the education of Native students and not including Indian education in the curriculum. The report found that Indian students are more than twice as likely to drop out than non-Indians. They are also less likely to go on to college than non-Indians. The report also said the state is not living up to its constitutional promise to teach about Indian cultures. A state education officials says progress is being made in this area. Get the Story:
