JULY 27, 2000 Sacagawea is the first Native American to grace a coin minted by the United States government. Among other accomplishments in her life, she served as a guide and interpreter to the historic Lewis and Clark expedition. During the journey, she gave birth to her son, nicknamed "Pomp," and continued to travel with the crew. Get the Story:
