Beginning this fall, Cook Inlet Tribal Council Inc., plans to spend up to $2 million a year to help keep Alaska Natives in the Anchorage public school system.

Known as the Partners for Success program, 10 teams of three will be assigned to high schools and middle schools to work one-on-one with Native students. The teams will provide counseling, tutoring, and a home coordinator.

There are about 6,200 Native students in Anchorage. They are twice as likely to drop out of school than their counterparts.
