The New Hampshire state archaeologist is criticizing the developer of a science center for ignoring concerns raised by himself and Abenaki tribal members.

Gary Hume says he and Abenaki tribal members met with the director of the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center. He says there is growing evidence the site is the state's largest known Abenaki settlement and that burial grounds and other artifacts may be harmed.

But Hume says the center didn't listen and never consulted with any archaeologists or the tribe until recently. The center is moving ahead with a $1.2 million addition to the center, which the tribe is protesting.
