Wampanoag Tribe signs consultation pact

FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 2001 Wampanoag tribal leaders on Thursday signed a consultation agreement with the Massachusetts National Guard covering human remains and artifacts found on the Massachusetts Military Reservation, a 22,000-acre area which includes archaeological sites among several military bases. The military signed the agreement with the Gay Head Wampanoag Tribe because the tribe is federally recognized. However, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, state-recognized, will also be included in discussions. Get the Story:
