TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2001

The Nebraska State Patrol Crime Lab will be examining some bone fragments recently uncovered at the University of Nebraska's Lincoln East Campus to determine if they are human or animal.

A specially-trained search dog found the bones, which are believed to be Native American. A group of tribes have been trying to track down what the school did with remains it incinerated more than 30 years ago.

The school believes the ashes may be in a city landfill. Some of them, however, may still be on the school' campus.
