N.M. property contains major Pueblo

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2001 For four years, a team from Southern Methodist University has been excavating an historic Pueblo site in New Mexico occupied from about A.D. 1200 to the mid-1400s. The site is located on private property of a man who bought the 2,000 acres in 1995. Richard Chaves was told there were ruins on the property but he had no idea that there was a large 400 to 600 room Pueblo. An archaeologist named Frank Hibben knew there was a significant settlement. But he couldn't afford to buy the property himself and the previous owner had threatened to bulldoze the site. Get the Story:
